This was originally a silverplate coffee/tea pot, but to me it feels more at home as a decorative piece.
An antique teapot by Somerset Silverplate (Brooklyn), with etched detailing including a bird motif and a sculptural, footed base. The proportions and detailing give it a lot of presence, even without being large.
The hinge on the lid is broken, so it no longer functions as a traditional teapot. Because of that, it works best as a vase or decorative vessel—something to leave out and live with rather than use formally.
Details:
Approx. dimensions: 10”h x 9.5”w (incl. handle and spout) x 5” deep
Marked Somerset Silverplate, Triple Plate, #103 (Brooklyn)
Four small feet
Etched bird and decorative detailing
Lid present but hinge is broken
Condition:
Vintage condition with visible patina, wear, and discoloration consistent with age. Hinge is broken and lid is not attached. Not polished, preserving original character.
